Dr. Kurtin worked as an Optician before college, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree, with honors, in Applied Biology, and interest in Psychology, at Michigan's Ferris University. In 1985, he graduated with a Doctorate of Optometry from The University Eye Institute, in Houston, Texas.  He is certified to treat Glaucoma, and many other eye diseases, and provides eye surgery consultation on as-needed basis.

Dr. Kurtin is a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry (ABO) and
Fellow of the American Board of Clinical Optometry (ABOC)

For over 25 years, Dr. Kurtin has been treating and caring for people suffering with Keratoconus, Post-LASIK and RK complications resulting in irregular astigmatism and severe vision problems.  His specialty in contact lens fitting include DreamLenses Refractive Therapy, Synergeyes Hybrid lenses, WaveLens HD, Macro GP Scleral lenses and other types to maximize vision.

Presbyopia Treatment (People who need bifocals)

Dr. Kurtin is a leader in the field of Presbyopia-- an age related condition causing close vision to blur. In the late 1980's he did clinical research for Bausch & Lomb's first soft Bifocal Contact Lenses (Bi-Tech) comparing it with Ciba Vision's Spectrum Bifocal. In the 1990's, he created and trademarked The MultiFokus(R) Lens--available nationally.  In the 2000's his work was having patients 'see' the difference between High Definition versus Standard Bifocal disposable Lenses (still giving free lenses after exam & evaluation).

Currently, the practice is one of the 'First In The Nation' to fit the newest Synergeyes Duette Multifocal contact lens. Dr. Kurtin has distinguished himself by acheiving a high level of clinical training and experience in fitting these lenses--awarding the practice Platinum status, one of a few in the DFW area.

Many 'Best Doctor' in Collin County Awards were given by Community Newspapers. The Consumer's Research Council in Washington D.C. counts The Kurtin Eye Center as one of America's Top practices. In 1999, Dr. Kurtin was accepted into the National Registry of Who's Who in American Health Care. The practice maintains an A+ Accredited BBB rating.

Personal

Dr. Kurtin enjoys time with family and volunteering for people in need. He loves mountain hiking in the summers. He is a singer/songwriter composer and hopes to someday commercialize his melodies.
